STK 500 development board

This is a not exactly an AVR micro design, but it sure helps the projects development with Atmel’s STK 500.

The schematic of the board:

board-sch
And the PCB with silkscreen:
board-brdboard-silk

board-silk1

There is also available the .sch and .brd files for Cadsoft’s Eagle design program.

Schematic: board.sch

      Board: board.brd

The board has four 10-pin connectors which are compatible with the port 10-pin connectors of stk 500. The data busses of each port (Px0 – Px7) are connected to the 8-pin connectors (PORTA_S – PORTD_S). From the same connectors we get the power needed for the LCD display, buzzer, speaker and LED’S.
The led’s D1-4 are working with logic level 0 and are connected to 4-pin connector LOGIC_0. The remaining led’s D5-8 are working with logic level 1 and are connected to 4-pin connector LOGIC_1. If you want to replace the red led’s with green or yellow you must change the value of the resistors R1-8 from 1K to 470.
The eight switches are connected to the 8-pin connector PUSH_BUTTONS. With the SW1 deep switch we can add a 10K pull-up resistor in case you don’t want to use the internal pull-up’s of the AVR.
The 2×16 characters lcd display works in 4-bit mode and is connected to LCD_BUZZ 8-pin connector. In the same connector is also present the lcd backlight signal and buzzer-speaker signals. The jumper LCD controls the supply of the display. Be careful not to aplly signals in lcd while that jumper is disconnected or the lcd maybe overheated or damaged.

Important!

A bug found in the placement of transistors T1, T2 in PCB.
The correct is the reverse of the drawing in silkscreen. The schematic it’s ok.
